For our homes to be successful, EPSILON SUPPORTED LIVING will need to build relationships with local councils. It is essential that our service quality exceeds the expectations of our government partners, including the CQC.
We have used several resources and publications to help assist with the development of our serviced, including: https://www.ndti.org.uk/uploads/files/Supported_Living_-_Making_the_Move,_May_2010.pdf
In 2016 the government published a supported-accommodation-review. The review estimates that at the end of 2015, there were approximately 651,500 accommodation-based supported housing units in Great Britain. The majority of which (85 per cent) are in England, with nine per cent in Scotland and six per cent in Wales. An estimated 71% of units across Great Britain accommodate older people; 29 per cent of units accommodate working-age people with a very wide range of support needs.
Our service users will fall into the Specialised Supported Housing Sector (SSH). In 2018, www.mencap.org.uk produced a housing report into this sector and projected growth of 32% over the next ten years:
“The profile of the SSH sector provides accommodation for a range of people, from people with a learning disability and/or autism with complex needs (the largest group [78%]) to homeless people and people with mental health problems. The majority of people living in a SSH property have 24/7 on-site care. The research estimates there to be between 22,000 and 30,000 SSH units. This is two to three times the size of an earlier estimate of the size of the SSH sector 1. Estimated demand for SSH properties is anticipated to increase from this baseline in 2017/2018 to 25,500-33,500 units by 2021/22 and to 29,000-37,000 units by 2027/28.”
